The documentation index said "3 of 9 written" and put a badge reading UNWRITTEN beside two thirds of the style handbook. The six were fourteen-line placeholders saying the page was yet to be written, and they were the pages the written ones link into: a reader following "see Dashes" from the colons page arrived at "Yet to be written." They are OpenINF's own writing rather than adapted from anyone, so none carries the `google` flag that makes the footer credit a source. Composing the text and then attributing it to Google would be a false provenance claim, and on a handbook about accuracy it would be the wrong page to make one on. Each keeps the heading another page anchors to, so every existing cross-reference lands where it did. Writing them turned up a second job. The handbook did not obey itself, and the two pages adapted from Google's guide had been damaged in translation. Rules the handbook broke, found by checking all 31 documents against each rule it states rather than by eye: `colons` introduced "closely-related" information, against the rule two pages along that an adverb ending in `-ly` takes no hyphen, and it does so in the summary line the documentation index renders; `agent-forwarding` wrote eighteen em dashes as pairs of hyphens; the 404 page headed itself "Page Not Found" where title case belongs to a page title; `commit-messages` carried a title-case heading and a list that began with no introduction, against a rule published on this branch. Damage from the conversion out of HTML, all of it older than this branch. The example under "Placeholder variables" contained no placeholder, `<var>` having been flattened by the backtick span around it. Two `adb` examples had been run together and their device prompt reattached to the wrong lines, leaving `adb shell shell@` as a command nobody can run -- inside the section on prompt indicators, where that prompt was the point. A public key was set as a paragraph, so terminal output read as narration. The braces example carried a `TODO` asking for something simpler and needed it: it opened a brace it never closed and showed `**` around its flags, bold written inside code font being not bold but two asterisks. A parenthesis in the bold-before-a-colon rule wrapped the verb, leaving the sentence without one. `code-syntax` was adapted from a revision Google has since moved past. Placeholders there are now uppercase with underscores, and the spellings ours used are among the forms that guide rejects. Nothing here had to be weighed against that: `<var>` appeared only inside the handbook, never in the documentation describing this project. Two headings claimed a subject that belonged elsewhere. The dashes page had a section called "Colons" while a page called Colons sits beside it; it advises reaching for a colon rather than a dash, and is named for that now. `code-syntax` no longer restates how to mark a placeholder, naming the casing its examples use and deferring to the page that owns the rule. Several examples did not demonstrate what they sat under. The heading pair set two title-case titles against each other, differing only by a hyphen. The Japanese colon pair set two lines that measure 295 and 298 pixels, which nobody can tell apart, so it names its code points instead. A list item ended in a colon and introduced nothing, in the paragraph about keeping that promise. U+FF1A is FULLWIDTH COLON, so the pages and the constant behind the commit checker say fullwidth rather than ideographic. The attribution says adapted rather than reproduced, because the adapted pages are modified now and CC BY 4.0 asks that a change be indicated. `retext-simplify` rejected the first draft eight times; a handbook that fails the plain-language check it asks others to pass has picked the wrong argument, so the prose gave way. Compare
The docs index said "3 of 9 written" and put a pink UNWRITTEN badge
beside two thirds of the style handbook. It now says 9 of 9.
The six were fourteen-line placeholders reading "Yet to be written" —
and they were the pages the written ones link into, so following "see
[Dashes]" from the colons page landed a reader on a placeholder.
capitalizationcode-in-textcode-samplesdasheslistspeople-person-first-languageWriting them turned up a second job, which is most of the rest of this
branch: the handbook did not obey itself, and the two pages adapted
from Google's guide had been damaged in translation.
Provenance
The six are OpenINF's own writing, so none carries the
googleflagthat makes a page footer credit Google under CC BY 4.0.
colons.mdandcode-syntax.mdkeep theirs; the six sit alongsidecommit-messages.md,which is also original. Composing the text and then crediting Google
would be a false provenance claim, and a handbook is the wrong place to
make one.
That footer now reads adapted from rather than reproduced from,
because this branch restyles both adapted pages and CC BY 4.0 asks that
a modification be indicated.
Rules the handbook broke
Found by checking all 31 documents against each rule the handbook
states, rather than by eye:

All of it older than this branch:
<var>cannot survive inside a backtick code span, so the one thingthe example existed to show was the one thing missing from it.

Following the current guide
code-syntaxwas adapted from a revision Google has since moved past.Placeholders there are now uppercase with underscores —
PROJECT_ID,INSTANCE_NAME— and the spellings ours used,local-directory-nameand

code-in-textstatesthe rule with its reason: the case carries the meaning where the markup
cannot, in a terminal or a plain-text file.
Nothing of ours had to be weighed against that —
<var>appeared onlyinside the handbook, never in the documentation describing this project.
Structure
Colons sits beside it. The heading claimed another page's subject and
misdescribed its own contents; it is When a colon is better now.
The content stays put, because a reader wondering about an em dash is
on the dashes page.
code-syntaxno longer restates how to mark a placeholder. It namesthe casing its examples use and defers to the page that owns the rule,
which is the direction the source guide took too.

ideographic.
Examples that did not demonstrate their rule
"Documenting Command Line Syntax". Both are title case — the only
difference was a hyphen, so the example for the capitalization rule
demonstrated hyphenation.

code-samplesclaimed the prompt "costs the reader nothing" becauseit is set in a
user-select: nonespan. That span exists in oneplace, the install line on the front page; a fenced block renders the
$as text and hands it to whoever copies. The claim now says whereit holds.
