…e.g. a sync tag) The published distribution cache follows rosdistro's default branch, which includes releases that are only in ros-testing. With a sync tag such as jazzy/2026-10-05 the snapshot matches what was synced to the main repositories: the tag's distribution file replaces the cached one, and only the package.xml files of changed releases are fetched again. The published rosdistro distribution cache (repo.ros2.org) follows rosdistro's default branch, so
vinca-snapshotpicks up releases that are still only in ros-testing. The ROS release team tags every sync to the main repositories in ros/rosdistro (<distro>/<YYYY-MM-DD>, e.g.jazzy/2026-10-05).vinca-snapshot --rosdistro-ref <ref>snapshots that ref instead:DistributionCache.update_distribution), which drops the package.xml entries whose release changed;get_cached_distribution(..., allow_lazy_load=True)), everything else is reused from the cache;Without the option nothing changes.
Example: jazzy at
jazzy/2026-10-05vs. the current cache differs in 276 packages, e.g.controller_manager4.48.1 (synced) vs. 4.49.0 (testing only); the refetched package.xml versions match the tag. A full jazzy snapshot with the option takes about 90 s.Used by RoboStack's bot to open a snapshot PR whenever a distribution is synced.
