The request was to analyze this repository, set up code coverage reporting, and integrate it into existing CI workflows.

Findings

  • No CI exists — .github/workflows/ is absent. The only workflow-shaped YAML in the repo lives under modules/module-09-iac-pipeline-as-code and is itself workshop exercise material, not real CI.
  • No Java build system — no pom.xml or build.gradle anywhere, despite Java source snippets existing in modules/*.
  • No executable tests anywhere:
    • modules/module-02-chat-deep-dive/samples/java/OrderServiceTest.java is entirely commented out — a placeholder instructing attendees to generate tests via Copilot /tests.
    • modules/module-02-chat-deep-dive/samples/javascript/test/userService.test.js is an empty describe() block with zero test cases. Running npx jest --coverage confirms this: it fails with "must contain at least one test" and produces an empty {} coverage report.
    • modules/module-07-debugging-defect-rca/samples/javascript has Jest configured but zero test files.
    • A repo-wide search for expect(, assertEquals(, @Test, etc. returns zero matches in any source file.

Why no changes were made

This is a workshop/curriculum repository: each modules/* folder holds isolated code snippets intended as Copilot exercise material, not a buildable Spring Boot or Express application. The empty test files are intentionally left blank for attendees to fill in using Copilot — they are not gaps to be filled by tooling setup.

Generating coverage reports requires a real, executing test suite to instrument. Fabricating tests or wiring up coverage against an empty/non-running suite would produce a report that doesn't reflect the actual codebase, so no workflow, build config, or coverage tooling was added.

Path forward

Once the workshop exercises are completed with real JUnit/Jest tests (and a pom.xml is added for the Java samples), this analysis can be re-run to wire up Jest's native Cobertura reporter and a GitHub Actions coverage workflow.
