Keep the raw local schema in LogStreamMetadata.schema.
restore_global_schema returns the canonical schema, and setup_logstream_metadata stores it as the metadata schema. Event::process passes its RecordBatch directly to Stream::push, which stores it in memory without schema adaptation. recordbatches_cloned then adapts that batch to the canonical metadata schema before applying the global resolution.
For a raw batch with a: Int64 and canonical metadata with a: Utf8, adapt_batch selects the a array by name and calls RecordBatch::try_new(...).unwrap(). This can panic before resolution.rename_batch can rename the field.
Keep the raw local schema in LogStreamMetadata.schema. Call restore_global_schema to populate Stream::global_schema, then use the raw schema for metadata.

+ .await?;

} else {

};The JSON path renames detected conflicts before fields_mismatch, so this finding is about the raw in-memory batch path, not direct JSON rejection.

In the schema selection flow, keep the raw local schema in metadata: call
restore_global_schema to populate Stream’s global schema, then use
stream_ref.updated_schema(arrow_schema.clone()) as the selected schema instead

Pass only raw staging schemas to global-schema resolution.
For an existing global schema, current_schema is canonical. fetch_schema returns global.schema, and recovery passes it to restore_global_schema. updated_schema then merges that canonical schema with raw .arrows schemas using Schema::try_merge. An incompatible raw field can therefore fail with ArrowError::SchemaError before schema_registry::resolve can assign its canonical suffix. This can abort migration even when only unconverted staging data conflicts.
Merge raw staging files with each other, then pass only that merged raw schema to the registry. Preserve the existing updated_schema behavior for internal streams.
🐛 Suggested fix
- let current_schema = self.updated_schema(current_schema)?;
+ let staging_files = self.arrow_files();
+ let record_reader = MergedReverseRecordReader::try_new(&staging_files);
+ let raw_schema = if record_reader.readers.is_empty() {
+ None
+ } else {
+ Some(record_reader.merged_schema()?)
+ };
if self.get_stream_type() == StreamType::Internal {
- return Ok(current_schema);
+ return self.updated_schema(current_schema);
}
- let schemas = vec![current_schema];
+ let schemas = raw_schema.into_iter().collect::<Vec<_>>();Update migration_schema_recovery_rejects_existing_conflicts_without_deleting_files so a conflict between the raw staging schema and the canonical persisted schema reaches registry resolution instead of failing during raw-schema validation.

Review comment at @src/parseable/streams.rs around lines 2625 - 2627:
Update the recovery flow around updated_schema and registry resolution to merge
only raw staging schemas from arrow_files via MergedReverseRecordReader before
calling the registry, excluding the canonical current_schema; retain
updated_schema(current_schema) for Internal streams. Adjust
migration_schema_recovery_rejects_existing_conflicts_without_deleting_files to
verify conflicts reach registry resolution without deleting staging files.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy liftDo not requeue the full snapshot when resolution fails in a way that will always repeat.
Every resolution error requeues every Arrow file in the cycle and then fails the cycle. This is correct for temporary metastore or lock errors.
build_resolutioncan also fail in a way that repeats on every attempt:
- A pinned field has a local datatype that is different from the canonical datatype.
- A pinned field has more than one local datatype.
- The 64 suffix attempts are exhausted.
Custom-partition fields are pinned in
resolve_global_schema, and their types come from JSON inference. Suppose one node infersInt64for a numeric partition value and another node publishedUtf8first. Every later cycle on the first node then fails in the same way. The stream does not convert any data on that node again, including groups that have no conflict, and staging disk use keeps growing.Separate errors that will always repeat from temporary storage errors. For example, return a separate
StagingErrorvariant for errors frombuild_resolution. Requeue only on temporary errors. For errors that always repeat, isolate or quarantine the conflicting groups and emit a clear error, so the remaining groups still convert.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents
