Bumps appraisal-rb/setup-ruby-flash from 2.4 to 2.7.

Release notes

Sourced from appraisal-rb/setup-ruby-flash's releases.

Release v2.7

Fix rv fast-install validation. This is a workaround for this issue: spinel-coop/rv#792

After rv clean-install, the action now runs bundle check and falls back to bundle install when native extensions are missing.

Release v2.5

This release improves Windows native-extension setup for the rv fast path.

Fixed

  • Recovered Windows native gems after rv clean-install when extensions were not usable by Bundler.
  • Enabled and repaired MSYS2 DevKit drive mappings and junctions across Windows volumes.
  • Added diagnostics for active drives and native-extension build state.
  • Fixed the action YAML syntax.

Other

  • Corrected a RuboCop line-length issue in the retry-shell spec.
Changelog

setup-ruby-flash Changelog Entry

[Unreleased]

Added

  • Windows Support: setup-ruby-flash now supports Windows runners (windows-latest, Windows Server 2022+) with full feature parity to Linux and macOS

    • rv Fast Path on Windows: Installs prebuilt Windows rv binaries (x86_64-pc-windows-msvc, aarch64-pc-windows-msvc) and manages modern MRI Ruby versions (3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 4.0) via prebuilt Ruby packages
    • Environment & Path Integration: Exports Windows-normalized environment variables (GEM_HOME, GEM_PATH, BUNDLE_PATH) and adds Ruby binaries to GITHUB_PATH in Windows-compatible format
    • Automatic Compatibility Fallback: Automatically falls back to ruby/setup-ruby on Windows for older Rubies (< 3.2), alternate engines (JRuby, TruffleRuby), or when forced via use-setup-ruby
    • Windows Shell Path Safety: Normalizes backslashes in GITHUB_ACTION_PATH to ensure Git Bash correctly sources action scripts and helper utilities
  • Deterministic install failures are not retried: gem-install-retries and appraisal-install-retries stop at the first attempt when the failure will repeat

    • Recognized failures: native extension build errors, dependency resolution conflicts, incompatible Ruby versions, Gemfile/gemspec load errors, lockfile or platform mismatches, and git authentication failures
    • Transient failures (network errors, a gem not yet in the index) still retry with exponential backoff
    • All retrying install steps share one helper, scripts/retry.sh, which keeps each attempt's output for classification and returns the command's exit status
  • Appraisal Setup Inputs: setup-ruby-flash can now install trusted pre-bundle gems, prepare an appraisal root Gemfile, cache appraisal gems, and retry appraisal2 installs

    • pre-bundle-gems and pre-appraisal-root-gemfile-gems accept newline-separated gem install argument lines
    • appraisal-name runs bundle exec appraisal <name> install when provided
    • main-bundle-install: false skips the main Gemfile install for appraisal-only workflows
    • appraisal-install-retries defaults to 2 and retries without changing configured Gemfile sources
    • Setup decisions are precomputed as named step outputs so workflow conditions remain auditable
  • Ruby Summary Detail: Workflow summaries now show the installed Ruby patch version when it differs from the selected Ruby line

    • Summary headings include the setup-ruby-flash action version when it can be resolved at runtime
    • rv fast-path summaries show values like 4.0 (4.0.6)
    • ruby/setup-ruby compatibility summaries include a separate installed Ruby description row for engines and head builds
    • *-head compatibility summaries include a Ruby build revision row when the runtime exposes one
  • bundler-cache Input: New bundler-cache input for seamless compatibility with ruby/setup-ruby

    • Uses rv clean-install for modern Ruby versions supported by setup-ruby-flash
    • Retries Bundler lockfile generation and rv gem installation without changing Gemfile sources
    • Allows true drop-in replacement: just change action name, keep all inputs the same
    • When using the compatibility path to ruby/setup-ruby, bundler-cache is passed through directly
    • Perfect for migrating from ruby/setup-ruby with zero workflow changes
  • gem-install-retries Input: New gem-install-retries input controls retry attempts for dependency resolution and gem installation

    • Defaults to 4
    • Retries keep the configured Gemfile sources, avoiding fallback to alternate gem hosts
  • Automatic Compatibility Path to ruby/setup-ruby: setup-ruby-flash now automatically uses the ruby/setup-ruby compatibility path for unsupported Ruby versions and implementations

    • Automatically detects Ruby version < 3.2 (2.7, 3.0, 3.1, etc.) and uses ruby/setup-ruby
    • Automatically detects non-MRI implementations (JRuby, TruffleRuby, etc.) and uses ruby/setup-ruby
    • Enables true drop-in replacement behavior - use setup-ruby-flash everywhere, get best performance where available
    • Shows informative notice when the compatibility path is selected: Selected ruby/setup-ruby compatibility path for Ruby version 'X.X' because rv fast path currently supports: 3.2 3.3 3.4 4.0.
    • All inputs are passed through to ruby/setup-ruby when using the compatibility path
    • Perfect for matrix builds that test across multiple Ruby versions (2.7 through 4.0)
    • Manual Override Controls: New use-setup-ruby and use-setup-ruby-flash inputs allow forcing specific versions to use one action or the other
      • use-setup-ruby: Force the ruby/setup-ruby compatibility path for supported versions (useful for benchmarking setup-ruby-flash vs setup-ruby)
