Make the v3 child-ref lookup version-aware, or document React 19 as a v3 requirement.
Wrap reads the caller's ref only from child.props.ref. This read is correct for React 19 but returns undefined on React 18. On React 18, the caller's ref is then dropped when cloneElement installs attachRef. The package declares react: "*" as its peer range, so React 18 installs are not excluded by metadata.

🟡 Minor · Pass the detector callback through a normal prop. · VirtualDetector.tsx:85-95
packages/react-native-gesture-handler/src/v3/detectors/VirtualDetector/VirtualDetector.tsx:85-95
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winPass the detector callback through a normal prop.
Under React 18,
Wrapis a function component, so<Wrap ref={handleRef}>does not deliverhandleRefto itsrefparameter. The new effect then seesviewRef.currentunset and logs the missing-ref error for a valid hostView. The registration failure predates this PR, but the false diagnostic is introduced here. A null-child host check does not fix this callback handoff.Suggested fix

Description
A
VirtualGestureDetectorwhose child does not forwardrefto a host view silently never registers: the cloned ref lands as a prop the component drops, the view tag stays -1 and the register effect returns early. React 19 no longer warns about refs on function components, so nothing surfaces. The v3
Wrapis now a class component with ahostRefcallback prop. After each commit, when the host ref never fired, the detector callsfindNodeHandleon the Wrap instance. A host view found there means the child swallowed the ref, and a dev-onlyconsole.errorreports it once per instance, naming the child type. A child that has no host view yet (still loading) finds nothing and stays quiet, so the check is deterministic. Web keeps its element-wrapping Wrap and the existing ref path.detachRefjoinsassignRefinhostInstance.tsand holds the ref-cleanup policy in one place.Test plan
