The members table gets a "Change member ID" row action for holders of the
new azure:members:write permission. The dialog confirms the change before
saving, shows it optimistically, and can email the member the new ID (to
their Microsoft 365 address by default). The backend refuses IDs already
assigned to someone else.

Creating a member now offers a Standard address (firstname.lastname, shown
live) or a Custom one. The recipient field is labelled as the member's
personal email; a PoliNetwork address asks for confirmation and the address
being created is refused, since the welcome email carries its credentials.

Needs the backend release with azure:members:write and the mailbox choice
(bump @polinetwork/backend once published) and the permission registered in
the IdP.

Walkthrough

Member creation now supports standard or custom Microsoft 365 addresses and conditional confirmation before emailing sign-in details to a PoliNetwork address. The directory also supports permission-scoped member ID changes, with optional notification and optimistic updates.

Changes

Azure member management

Layer / File(s) Summary
Mailbox creation
src/features/azure/mailbox.ts, src/features/azure/azure.functions.ts, src/features/azure/member-dialog.tsx
Mailbox helpers derive and validate addresses. The creation dialog submits standard or custom mailbox details, validates the notification recipient, and confirms before sending sign-in details to a PoliNetwork address.
Member ID update authorization and endpoint
src/server/permissions.ts, src/server/auth.middleware.ts, src/features/azure/azure.functions.ts, tests/server-security.test.mjs, README.md, AGENTS.md
The new azure:members:write permission guards the member ID update endpoint. The endpoint validates its inputs and calls the backend mutation. Security tests check mutation scopes and event-handler usage; documentation describes the update operation and permissions.
Member ID update dialog and directory
src/features/azure/member-number-dialog.tsx, src/features/azure/members-page.tsx
The directory shows the ID-change action to members with write permission. The dialog validates and confirms changes, applies an optimistic update, and reverts it on save failure. The page handles refresh results and reports notification status.

The member ID change feature relies on a backend release that the project does not yet depend on, so the project fails type checking. Update the backend dependency before merging.

Update @polinetwork/backend to the release whose setAssocNumber returns notificationSent. The installed backend types return only { error: string | null }, so pnpm typecheck fails with TS2339.

  • src/features/azure/azure.functions.ts#L34-L48: bump the backend dependency so the handler's return type includes notificationSent. Do not cast the result.
  • src/features/azure/member-number-dialog.tsx#L87-L87: no code change is needed. Confirm that typecheck passes after the bump.

Keep saved IDs through stale directory reloads and restore the prior pending value if a later change fails. Validate member numbers without changing the entered value, surface failed welcome emails, and simplify dialog copy.

Add regression tests and updated browser screenshots with simulated data.
